What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a totally natural state of mind. Despite what is often portrayed in the movies, hypnosis has long been a useful tool to help achieve focus, and is a natural occurrence that we’ve all experienced at one time or another when we’ve drifted off for a moment and began to daydream. Hypnosis is simply a way to relax the conscious mind to allow the subconscious mind to move to the forefront, so that suggestions can be made directly, which enables you to act on these suggestions more easily and effectively.

When you are in a hypnotic state, your mind and body are deeply relaxed. In this state, your mind is in a heightened state of awareness, you hear and remember everything that is said, and you remain closely involved throughout the experience. During this state, your imagination, your memory, your creativity and your ability to respond to suggestion are greatly enhanced.

While athletes have long been receptive to the benefits of hypnosis on their performance, in recent years, members of the medical community have begun to recognize the benefits of hypnosis for its calming and behavioral modification benefits, and have recommended hypnosis for patients with cancer, other potentially life-threatening illnesses, sleep disorders, stress and even for women preparing for labor and childbirth.

What to Expect:

Before we work with hypnosis, we discuss your expectations and determine your desired outcome. Then, we develop a plan to meet your expectations. Depending on the situation, you may find that just one or two sessions are sufficient to help you move forward. For others, it may take numerous sessions to achieve the desired results, no two lives and no two people are the same.

Initial Consultation

The first 30 minutes of our first meeting are free of charge. This is important because it allows us to get to know one another and to determine if there is a good match between what you want and what I can offer you. During this initial session, I will conduct an intake interview, where I will assess what you hope to achieve, what kind of historical elements are involved, and what skills and tools will best suit your needs. If there is interest in moving forward with life coaching services, I’ll give you an overview of the process. If you are seeking hypnosis services, the next step would be to provide you with a brief introduction to hypnosis, which includes a discussion about “learning how to be hypnotized.”

Sessions

Depending on your needs, we will discuss different options for a session plan that best meets your needs. To be most effective, sessions are held for a minimum of one hour at each sitting. When we first get started, we will likely need to meet more frequently, and as you become accustomed to the plan and begin creating new habits, we can meet less frequently. I recognize you lead a busy life, so I will be as flexible as possible in meeting your time requirements.
